I wanted to make a self portrait to better my skills at modeling realistic heads. I got as far as sculpting in ZBrush just to put it off for a while. A year later I decided to finish it but I just wasn't completely happy with my UV unwrap so I started the sculpt over. Everything is done in Maya with the exception of the glasses and brain/brain canister which were modeled in LightWave Modeler and imported into Maya for final rendering. I used the fast skin shader in Mental Ray; that layer took almost 7 hrs to render at 2000 x 3000. Everything was rendered in layers and composited in Photoshop. The hair is Shave and a Haircut with the exception of the eyebrows which are painted.
